Constructing
When it comes to building oast cowls, we have all the experience and skills needed, to make sure your Cowls fit perfectly on your roof. The way we scale and pitch them, means that they not only weather your roof properly, they also look aesthetically pleasing to the eye. We have built cowls all over the country. From the Kentish to the Sussex Cowl, or even the vastly different styles of Hereford and Norfolk, we have built and refurbished them all.
Be it a Kentish Cowl, Sussex Cowl or even a Cowl from Herefordshire there isn’t a style that we haven’t built. We are so very proud of all of our cowls and that can be seen in the finished products.
To keep a Cowl running smoothly, and free from squeaks and bangs, it’s very important to keep them serviced. We understand all your needs when it comes to servicing your Cowls. Whether it be a traditional timber Cowl or fibreglass construction, we have the knowledge to keep them at their best.

Refurbishing
When it comes to us refurbishing an Oast Cowl, the only way we can do a proper job is to get it down and back to our workshop. We then carefully begin to check the Cowl over, looking for any rotten boards or anything untoward within its main structure (Bottom curb, backbone and head). The paintwork then gets sanded back to bare wood, before being placed inside or special drying room. Once inside the drying room any unwanted moisture is removed from the Cowl. Once the cowls are dry, we then set about any repairs that are needed before moving on to the final stage, the paintwork. We have used many different paints and different products over the years, and we now are set with our own special paint system, that stands up to all the vast arrays of weather your Cowls have to put up with.

Servicing of Oast Cowls
Keeping your Oast Cowls serviced regularly is very important, especially as your Cowls are constantly working hard in all weathers to keep your roofs dry. Over the course of time, lubricants will be needed to keep your Cowls working freely, and to keep the cowls from making any unwanted squeaks and bangs. In some cases cowls can become jammed, and it’s possible that they will need repacking on the cross trees to get them moving again. We have experienced many different scenarios over the years when it comes to the servicing of oast cowls, and we have built up a vast knowledge to alleviate any unwanted problems.
